Everything you need to know about storing with Country Lane Storage. Can’t find your answer? Contact us and we’ll help you out.
Q. How do I know what unit size I need?
We have a range of units from 9m² to 40m² to suit all types of needs. As a rough guide: 9–15m² suits 1–2 bedroom contents or business overflow; 16–24m² fits a 3 bedroom house or small car; 25–40m² handles a 5 bedroom home, large vehicle, or business inventory. If you’re unsure, just give us a call and we’ll help you choose the right fit. We can also provide custom sizes for specific needs.
Q. What do I need to do before move-in day?
Make sure your storage agreement has been completed and signed before you arrive. We’ll guide you through everything — just contact us to get started.
Q. Do I need to sign a contract?
Yes, we have a storage agreement in line with the requirements of the Self Storage Association of Australasia. It sets out the terms and conditions for both parties and clearly spells out the rights and obligations of each. There is no fixed-term lease — you simply need to give 14 days’ notice when you wish to move out.
Q. What if I choose the wrong size unit?
Not a problem. If your belongings don’t fit the unit you’ve chosen, we’ll do our best to move you into a larger one on the day, subject to availability. You can also take a second unit under your name if needed — a new storage agreement will apply to the additional unit.
Q. When can I access my unit?
You can visit as often as you like, 7 days a week — including public holidays — between 7am and 7pm. Outside of these hours, entry to the facility is not permitted.
Q. Who holds the key to my unit?
You do — only you. You provide your own padlock and keep the key. We do not hold a key to your unit. Only people you choose to give access to can ever enter your unit. This is one of the key benefits of self-storage.
Q. Who else can access my unit?
Only you and anyone you choose to grant access to. Your unit is your private space — no one else, including us, is permitted to view, move, or use your goods. Your personal details also remain confidential.
Q. How much does storage cost?
Prices depend on the size of unit you choose. Our range starts from $140/month for a small unit through to $460/month for our largest units. Vehicle storage starts from $130/month. Visit our storage options page for full pricing, or contact us for a quote.
Q. Are there any extra charges or hidden fees?
No. The price you see is what you pay. There are no hidden fees or extra charges.
Q. How does billing work?
Rent is paid monthly in advance, from the date you move in, and your account rolls over automatically each month. If you decide to move out, give us 14 days’ notice — if you’ve already paid for the month, any unused rent beyond the 14-day notice period will be refunded.
Q. What are my payment options?
We accept cash and internet banking. We encourage all of our customers to set up an automatic payment with their bank — it takes away the hassle of remembering to pay a monthly invoice.
Q. What happens if I don’t pay my rent?
Rent is due in advance as per your storage agreement. If rent falls overdue, we may ultimately be required to sell the contents of the unit. We will do everything we can to avoid this — if you’re having trouble, please contact us as early as possible so we can work through it together.
Q. What is the minimum storage period?
The minimum rental period is one month. After that, there’s no fixed term — you can stay for as long as you need.
Q. How do I cancel or move out?
Simply call or email us with at least 14 days’ notice of your intention to vacate. When you move out, please leave your unit door unlocked and open so we can verify the move-out. We understand circumstances can change quickly — get in touch as early as you can and we’ll help manage the process.
Q. What if I move out before my paid period ends?
If you move out early, we will refund any unused rent after the 14-day notice period has been observed.
Q. How do I update my account details?
Just call or email us and we’ll sort it for you.
Q. How secure is the facility?
Our Kumeu site is equipped with CCTV recording all activity in and out of the facility 24 hours a day, along with perimeter fencing and a controlled entry gate that opens at 7am and closes at 7pm. Because you provide your own padlock, only you can ever enter your unit. These measures have proven a strong deterrent — we’ve had no issues with burglaries.
Q. Is my stored property insured?
You will need to arrange your own contents insurance through an insurer of your choice. While we take every measure to keep the facility secure, we cannot guarantee against all eventualities, and we recommend ensuring your goods are covered.
Q. What am I allowed to store?
You can store almost anything — household furniture, business inventory, vehicles, seasonal gear, and more. The exceptions are anything that is explosive, flammable, illegal, perishable, or environmentally harmful. If you’re unsure about a specific item, just give us a call.
Q. Can I store food or perishables?
No — fresh food or perishable goods cannot be stored in your unit.
Q. Do you offer powered units?
No, we don’t offer powered units.
Q. Can I store a vehicle?
Yes. We have a dedicated area for storing cars, trailers, motorcycles, and other vehicles. Our mid-size units can also hold a small car, and our larger units a full-size car.
Q. Can you help me move my things in or out?
We can provide some removalist contact details to help you arrange your move.
